With the first team away touring in the north east, Blackpool 2nd XV took centre stage this weekend and they did themselves proud, coming away with a win over a very strong Burnley side.

For the first 15 minutes the game was very much tit for tat, with both defences showing strong. However, Burnley eventually got the better of some staunch Blackpool defending when, in the 23rd minute, they crossed over for a converted try.

The second half saw Blackpool rewarded for their efforts when they managed to level the scores thanks to a well-worked try by Mario Yanous Panteli.

He kicked through a ball from an Alex Greaves free-kick following a mark. Yanous Panteli raced on to pick up his own kick and went through to score under the posts to give an easy conversion to Sean Donnelly.

A line out was given to Blackpool close to the Burnley line.

They took the ball and began to drive forward eventually crossing the line to allow flanker Richard Parlour to touch down for another converted try.

The visitors did not take their foot off the throttle and began again to attack the home side.

Donnelly broke away from a ruck in his own half to sprint the length of the field to score under the posts to give himself an easy conversion.

With the score now at 21-7, the visitors eased the pressure and, much to their disappointment, let Burnley in to score a converted try.

This seemed to spur on the visitors and, with only one minute remaining, they scored again.

This time, after a tap penalty taken by scrum-half Phil Swindells, second row Greg Jones crashed through the Burnley defence to touch down out wide. Donnelly stepped up for the conversion but saw his kick strike an upright to bounce wide of the posts.
