KENDAL player/coach Ian Voortman offers his weekly view: Our bus was full of tired, but very satisfied bodies on the way back from Herefordshire at the weekend after becoming only the third team to beat Luctonians at their place this season.

A second vital away win on the bounce was once again built on focussed individual performances from players who now believe that they are capable of winning at home and on the road.

Saturday started with breakfast at the club at 8.30am (the first time I’ve seen the front rowers turn up on time) in an effort to make the long journies more enjoyable for the players.

Giving ourselves a full hour and a half before kick-off to prepare has ensured that our preparations have been less frantic and have enabled us to come out of the blocks flying.

In fact, the leads we have built up in the first 10 minutes of our two previous games have proved to be the difference.

It’s amazing how much easier it is to stick to a game plan when one isn’t playing catch-up. Traditionally, Kendal teams have been built around a strong tight five and it is pleasing to see how our experienced forwards are leading from the front, none more so than our hooker Duncan Green, whose recent performances have seen him consistently make more tackles and carries than any other forward.

Harrogate are visitors this weekend and we are expecting a good crowd and a fantastic game - the players are looking forward to another special day at Mint Bridge.
