Kendal Colts 38 - Aldwinians 5...
AT THE third attempt, Kendal U17s' home fixture against Aldwinians finally took place on Sunday and it was worth the wait as they put in one of their best performances of the season.
Aldwinians came prepared with some senior colts (6ft-plus with beard), whose registration, it was assured, was legitimate. Early on, these new recruits proved useful in close-quarter rucks and mauls but apart from that their effect was nil.
Kendal scored first when Josh Musgrave took an inside pass, cold-footing the defence with the change of angle to run 25 metres to score.
Aldwinians replied when their forwards pressurised the Kendal line, forced a scrum and the visitors' No. 8 drove over down an unprotected blindside.
Kendal then turned the game by scoring from the kick-off. Quick recycling by the forwards and good hands by the backs allowed Matt Wilson to finish in style.
Kendal were now in control, outclassing their opposition in the backs and forwards. The pack performed well, esp-ecially the back row and Aldwinians were under pressure every time Kendal spun the ball wide.
A great team effort produced further tries for Warren Wharton, Tom Barton and Matt Wilson again.
After good passing late in the second half, back-row replacement Liam Nicholson claimed the last, and best try of the day with his first touch of the ball. Tom Barton converted four of the six tries.
The colts' next fixture will be away to Rochdale away on March 13 Parkonians have conceded this weekend's game as they fell they are unable to field a competitive side.
