DISAPPOINTMENT at defeat by bottom club Bedford Athletic last weekend quickly gives way to the tense affair that is always the derby clash with Fylde, at the Woodlands on Saturday (2.15pm).

Kendal welcome back prop-forward Billy Coxon to the team after missing the Bedford game in an otherwise unchanged side.

Team: S. Mulholland, J. Ladell, M.

Armstrong, P. Dodds, L. Ladell, D. Stephens, M. Airey, B. Coxon, D. Green, R. Harryman, D. Preston, M. Capstick, D.

Bowman, M. Bowman, A. Bateson.

Replacements: A. Martindale, J.

Nicholson, L. Hayton, D. Bibby.

The demolition men were at work in mid-January at Fylde, who have a new £1m-plus redevelopment involving a new clubhouse, resurfaced car park and all-weather pitch paid for by selling land to home builders.

Fylde have a couple of injury worries, including right winger Roger Wiseman, who suffered a groin injury in their 19-19 draw at New Brighton.

That result took the sting out of Kendal's defeat at Bedford.

Fifth-placed Fylde, unbeaten at home in the league this season, are two places and seven points ahead of Kendal in the league table.

Bedford Athletic 10 - Kendal 0...

BOTTOM club Bedford Athletic, scrapping to give themselves a slim chance of avoiding relegation, yielded nothing to an in-form Kendal, whose four-match winning run ended in a 10-0 defeat.

This was always going to be a tight encounter despite the difference in the club's league placings, and Bedford's fear of failure was a big motivator.

It showed in the contact situation, where Bedford just had the sharper hunger at the breakdown, and they were able to protect a hard-won lead with a slice of good fortune favouring them on the day.

Kendal, who did not play particularly badly, had one of those days when you know things just are not going to go your way.

The only points of the first half came in the 24th minute.

From a lineout in the Kendal 22 the Bedford pack drove the ball through a couple of phases before a powerful drive for the tryline from second-row Michael Hudson saw him touch down wide out.

Stand-off Ashley Tapper added the conversion to give the home side a seven-point lead, which they protected for the remainder of the game.

Kendal struggled for quick go-forward ball but managed to release their backs on quite a few occasions in promising situations, but were unable to convert any of the chances into points.

Kendal's best period of play came towards the end of the first half, Luke Ladell for once was released down his left wing in space and looked to have finished a wonderful, flowing move with a try in the corner, but the referee pulled play back because he judged there to have been a forward-pass.

On the stroke of half time Kendal were sure they had scored when from a penalty lineout five metres out, Kendal set a driving maul in motion, which by the time scrum-half Mark Airey touched the ball down over the tryline, involved 14 players (only Luke Ladell stayed out in a sweeper role).

However, the referee over-ruled his touch judge and decided that Airey had knocked the ball on as he grounded it - which Airey rejected afterwards - thus denying Kendal their first points of the game.

Instead Bedford extended their lead when Tapper kicked a penalty in the 50th minute.

Kendal's only real chance of scoring points in the second half came with a penalty in the 55th minute, but Dan Stephen's long-range attempt was wide of the mark.

Kendal battled on with prop forward Richard Harryman leading the charge, but they could not break through a very obstinate and determined Bedford defence.
