Silloth 27-Kendal A 7.

KENDAL A were forced to make changes to the side that ran Wharfedale so close last week when they visited Silloth in the Cumbria Cup and lost 27-7.

With the inclusion in the home side of two professional Rugby League recruits, the Kendal backs were well marshalled, with Warren Tilsley and Craig Atkinson threatening, but never quite breaking through an obdurate defence.

Instead a piece of opportunism from the home fly-half brought Silloth a try in the corner.

Kendal struggled to please the referee and were bemused by several decisions as their opponents kept the points ticking over for a 16-0 lead at half time.

A bullocking run from Steve Capstick scattered the home defence, but again the danger was contained. When Silloth made a break, it was repulsed thanks to cover tackle from the industrious Graham Smith.

Another run by the Silloth fly-half, despite a tackle by Nick Michilini, led to another score wide out even though the effective James Richardson put in a crunching hit.

From the restart Stuart Cartmel drove into the heart of the Silloth defence and, with Alan Martindale and Phil Watson driving on round the fringes, up popped Steve Woof to burst over the line for a fine score, Andrew Boardley converting.

In the closing minutes Richard Adgie and Andrew Wyatt both made breaks without scoring before the referee signalled the end of a disappointing Kendal display.
