ANOTHER clean sheet from Kendal provided the basis for a big win and ensured that the team go into Saturday's title decider at Vale of Lune fully prepared.

A victory at Vale would give Kendal the Miller Homes League Division One championship no matter what happens with Leigh Seconds, at Macclesfield.

Kendal started brightly with Howse making yards through hard running while quick ruck ball allowing Kendal to open gaps in the Wirral back line, but the weather made it hard for passes to stick.

The Kendal front five soon got the upper hand and scrum ball was won against the head.

This paid off as turnover scrum ball was carried well resulting in a try from Howse, which Luke Jacobs converted The forward domination was beginning to tell when Ross crashed over for an unconverted try, but the home side then had to soak up concerted pressure from Wirral to go into the break 12-0 up.

The second half saw Kendal step up a gear, with flanker Liam Nicholson producing a man of the match performance with formidable defensive stolps. Those tackles forced mistakes and when Howse dived on a loose ball it was put through quick hands, allowing Gillard an unopposed run in from the ten-metre line. Jacobs added the extras to make it 19-0.

Next on the scoresheet was Martindale, aswonderful forward play created an overlap for a simple try for the prop forward.

The fifth try involved forwards and backs. Jacobs found Cartmell who made an angled run, took the tackle and off-loaded for the supporting Wharton to score under the posts. Jacobs converted.

A backs move involving several pairs of hands then put sub winger McClure over in the corner for another unconverted try.

Finally scrum-half Coulter made a break through the middle and off-loaded to Cartmell. Early ruck ball from the supporting forwards gave the backs chance to work some quick phases until Wharton scored his second try.

Jacobs was again off target with the kick, but the points tally had passed 40.
