Blackpool and St Annes both visited Fleetwood last weekend and neither came away with the result they wanted.

On Saturday St Annes could only draw and on Monday Blackpool went down to a 62-run defeat.

St Annes amassed 274-4 before declaring with three balls of their innings remaining as Gareth Evans made 104, from 140 balls with 15 fours, and Ian Austin made 82, from 97 balls with two sixes and seven fours.

On the back of 61 from 83 balls with 10 fours from returning professional Doug Watson and 47 from Michael Clinning, Fleetwood made it to 111-1.

But they then lost seven wickets for six runs to find themselves in trouble at 117-8.

One further wicket was lost but youngsters Bruce Budden and Tom Clarke played through for a draw at 135-9 with Arshad Khan taking 5-26.

Fleetwood batted first against Blackpool and again it was Watson, 78 from 139 balls with 10 fours, and Clinning, 42 from 57 balls with eight fours, plus a belligerent 33 from Nick Coultas that took Fleetwood to their all out 172.

Charles Boucher, 35, was the only Blackpool batsman to trouble the Fleetwood bowlers and with Dave Fish taking 4-40, Clinning 4-18 and Steve Hill 2-27, his wickets the vital ones of Steven Croft and Justin Kreusch in successive balls, Blackpool were dismissed for 110 to lose by 62 runs.

County action came to Stnaley Park yesterday (Wednesday) as title-chasing Lancashire started their four day tie with Warwickshire.
