A hockey player has been given a chance to prove her worth at international level with a call up to the England Development Squad.

Rossall School pupil, Fran Parker, 15, has been invited to join the squad trials at camp in the Midlands in June.

The youngster is hoping the trial will lead to national colours following recent successes for school, county and region in which she has become a prolific goal scorer in all competitions.

Fran is responsible for 12 of the 16 goals scored to date by Lancashire U-17s and scored 14 out of the team's 19 goal tally as she captained Preston Girls' U-16 Indoor Team and led them to victory in the North Championship.

"Fran's an exceptional talent and she's really worked on areas of her game that were identified by England coaches a year ago. Her record for school, county and region shows that her game has moved to another level and we'll all be rooting for her come June and we look forward to seeing her in an England strip in the near future," said Emma Williams, Fran's sports teacher.

Fran, from Little Singleton, took up hockey in year four at the Fleetwood school and her potential was spotted early by coach, Emma Williams, who first put her forward for Lancashire Schoolgirl trials in year seven.

She later captained Lancashire U-15's and was the youngest player by a year to play in the North of England U-16 side; getting on the score sheet with a hat-trick on her first outing.

Fran said: "The continuous support from everyone at Rossall has been invaluable, in particular that from the headmaster, Mr Wilbur and from my sports teacher, Mrs Williams. Without their encouragement and guidance I wouldn't be in a position to attempt this new goal but I'm really looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity to represent my country."
