Blackpool athletes amassed an amazing 79 medals during the Lancashire track and field championships at Stanley Park last weekend comprising 25 gold,29 silver and 25 bronze.

The club's young sprint star,Lucy Mansfield was the only triple winner,striking gold in the under 17 womens 100m.in 12.4 secs;the 200m.in25.3 secs.and the 300m.with a winning time of 40.6 secs. However James Davies' exploits were even more impressive,establishing championship best performances in the under 17 mens triple jump where he smashed the 10 year old record by 14cm. with a combined distance of 13.26m. followed by a 17cm.improvement on the 14 year old long jump jump record with a leap of 6.53m.

Lytham schoolboy,Ben Everson underlined his undoubted potential as a future middle distance international with an impressive double gold in the under 13 boys 800m.and 1500m. events with winning times of 2 mins.24.3 secs.and 4 mins.48.6 secs. His 1500m.time was nother championship best performance,smashing the six year old record set by Curtis Pearce of Blackburn Harriers,the son of Stuart Pearce,the former England soccer international.

Not to be outdone by the youngsters,several of the club's senior athletes were also in record breaking mood at the championships. An outstanding run by Carolyn Robbins sliced a full 8 seconds off the ladies veteran 5000m. record with a time of 18 mins.43.2 secs. Alex Bale also created a new championship best performance in the senior mens pole vault event with a clearance of 3.80m. whilst Lythams middle distance ace,Jono Prowse, once again took the 1500m. crown,The day before he won the Blackpool Beaverbrooks Fun Run with a time of 4 mins. 1.10 secs. and "iron man" Shane Ellershaw retained his county hammer throw title with a toss of 33.34m.

In the junior mens ranks, Thomas Baran struck double gold with wins in the shot putt event with 10.38m.and the discus with 25.17m.whilst Kirkham's Luke Minns won the 3000m.endurance event in a superb 8 mins.53.40 secs. and Matt Wright triumphed in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.25m.

Declan O'Hara was another successful pole vaulter taking gold in the under 17 mens division with 3.70m. and Dominic Broughton won the under 15 boys long jump title with a leap of 5.34m.

The club's leading lady pole vaulter,Elena Mingus retained her senior title with an identical clearance of 3.00m. whilst newcomer Sarah Goff took the senior womens 400m.hurdles title at her first attempt with a time of 84.10 secs.

One of the highlights of the championships was the strong front running of Bianca Pederson who clocked an amazing 2 mins. 17.30 secs. to take the gold medal in the under 15 girls 800m.although her performance was matched by Lydia Critchley,Taegan O'Hara and Beckii Ferguson who also struck gold in the under 15 girls 300m.,70m.hurdles and pole vault with times of 42.10 secs.,12.90 secs.and a clearance of 2.10m. respectively.

In the youngest age group,the club's exciting new sprinter,Tash Gardner, took gold in the under 13 girls 200m. with a time of 28.20 secs which she followed up with no less than three bronzemedals in the long jumnp,high jump and hammer throw competitions and silver in the 100m.,whilst Jodie Ferguson displayed great stamina for her age in taking gold in the under 13 girls 800m. in 2 mins.33.50 secs.

Over in the USA,the club's British Shot Putt record holder,Carl Myerscough recorded his best series of the year, so far, at the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine,California.Carl won the event with a throw of 20.19m.after throwing 19.90m.and 20.02m.in earlier rounds.
