Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde club Athletics Club end the season with the satisfaction that four of its members have the distinction of being placed number one in the UK in their specialist events - two of whom lead the way in two events each.

For the sixth consecutive year, Carl Myerscough is ranked British nunmber one in the shot putt event with a distance of 19.98m.

Carl, who is the British record holder at the event, has been the only world class British putter since Geoff Capes and was unlucky not to be included in the British team at the World Championships in Osaka, last month where his record throw of 21.92m would have landed him the silver medal.

Carl is also presently ranked British number one in the discus.

The club's other national champion is the club's oldest member, 75-year-old Mike Walsh who tops his age group in the marathon with a time of three hours 54 minutes 57 seconds, achieved at London this year which was a full half hour ahead of second placed Ray Gee.

Hannah Dickson retains her number one position in the under 17 womens' high jump for the third successive year with a clearance of 1.75m. achieved at Stanley Park, Blackpool in July.

The other four national champions include one of the club's youngest athletes, eleven-year-old Ben Everson who tops the UK rankings for the under 11 boys 1500m with a time of 4 mins 55.6 secs.

Ben achieved this winning gold at the Lancashire Championships at Stanley Park in May.

A further 10 BWFAC athletes have made the top 10 in the UK rankings.
