ARNSIDE were desperately unlucky to lose out to high- flying Ingleton in the second round of the Adam and Gaskell Senior Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Arnside enjoyed as much possession as the visitors and the game could have gone either way.

Chris Bibby and Jack Bland scored for Ingleton, while John Carey was on target for the home team.

In the last few minutes Arnside were on top and it looked as if they would at least force an equaliser and send the game into extra time.

Arnside believed they had done so in the last seconds with what they thought was a good goal, but the referee saw it otherwise and cancelled out the effort for an infringement.

Ingleton will now meet Storeys in the third round.

Cartmel Reserves went through courtesy of a penalty shoot-out in their third-round tie with Storeys Reserves in the Squire Snooker Centre/ Fisher /Howson/ Remembrance Cup.

In the Premier Division, meanwhile, Kirkby Lonsdale went seven points clear of CCM Dynamos, who appear to have blown their chances of winning the title after only drawing 0-0 with bottom club Boys Club.

Kirkby registered a comfortable 4-0 win over Power Station.

Kirkby played excellent football throughout and in Chris Vincent they had a match-winner. He scored a superb hat-trick with Mark Rendall adding a fourth.

Cartmel kept their title bid alive after gaining revenge over Westgate Wanderers, who had beaten them earlier in the season.

Cartmel showed no mercy to Wanderers and outplayed them for a 5-1 victory with young Ricky Wallbank bagging a hat-trick - his first goals for the first team - while Ben Clarke and Joel Drinkall supplied the others.

Stuart Gordon got a good goal for Westgate.

In Division One, Ingleton Reserves had no luck in front of goal with three shots hitting the woodwork, while City Contracts went ahead with a Nigel Barrass goal.

The match seemed to be turning Ingleton's way on the hour and they drew level with a 25-yard strike from David Baren, but although they dominated they could not turn their chances into goals and Contracts clinched a close 2-1 victory when Simon Marshall scored in a packed defence.

Holme Athletic were edged out 3-2 by Swarthmoor after taking the lead through a Stuart Lord goal and adding a second from high-scoring Lee Waddington.

Swarthmoor got one back through John Rattingan and upped their workrate to cause panic in the Holme defence, their equaliser coming with an own goal from Ian Manderson.

As Holme's heads dropped, Swarthmoor hit them again with Stuart Shaw scoring the winning goal to put them back in the promotion shake-up.

Relegation strugglers Allithwaite Rangers and Millhead fought out a close battle with Millhead taking the spoils 3-2.

Goals from Dominic Wooff, an Andy Ideson penalty and the winner from Ryan Greenland cancelled out man- of-the-match Dave Addison's two well-taken goals for Allithwaite.

In Division Two Bentham remain unbeaten and move back to the top of the table after beating Freehold 2-1 with goals from Sean Lister and Stuart Ralph.

Steven Smith replied for a spirited Freehold side.

Bolton-le-Sands and Morecambe Hoops probably lost any chance of gaining promotion when they drew 2-2.

In an even game, which neither deserved to lose, Robert Powell and Nathan Downham were on target for Sands, while Robert Goldsborough scored both of Hoops' goals.

Sands stay in mid-table though, only having lost two games so far.

Grange moved into fourth place, well in contention for a promotion place after beating Marsh United Reserves 7-4.

Marsh could not shake off a dogged Grange, who equalised no fewer than four times.

Neil Turner, Craig Turner and Michael Purvis all netted twice for Grange with Graham Jackson making up the tally.

Marsh had a Craig Jackson hat-trick and a Graham Rose goal for their trouble.

Kirkby Lonsdale Rangers extended their unbeaten run to three games when beating fellow strugglers Arnside Reserves 2-0 with goals from Scott Ferguson and John Knox netting before half time.

In Division Three, Carnforth Rangers outplayed Boys Club Res 3-1 with strikes from Alec Gorton (2) and Peter Chippendale, while Jason McNamee got Boys Club's consolation.

Allithwaite Reserves played well to hold in-form Millhead Reserves to a 1-1 draw. Tricky Richard Spendlove was Allithwaite's scorer, while Robert Pearcy replied for Millhead.

The golden oldies of Burton Thistle Reserves did it again as they helped to beat Poulton United 5-2.

Gareth Wilkinson (2), Steve Webster (2) and Ian Atkinson netted for Thistle, with Chris Clarke and Luke Parkinson replying.
