Appleby United lost 2-0 to Wetheriggs United in the first round of the Westmorland FA Invitation Trophy on Sunday.

Kendal County beat Carleton Rovers 6-0 in the other tie played.

Lunesdale were 4-1 winners over Victoria SC in Division 2 of the Talbot Insurance Westmorland League.

Lunesdale's goals came from Johnny Lowis, Ryan Robinson, and Andy Lockhart (2).

Sedbergh Wanderers top the first division table after maintaining their unbeaten start to the season with a 5-1 win at home to Keswick on Saturday.

Sedbergh lead Wetheriggs by a point with both teams having played four matches.

l CARVETII United's newly-formed reserve side played hosts to Wetheriggs A in their opening fixture of Division 4 and ran out 3-2 winners. Carvetii's youthful reserves have been full of promise throughout their pre-season games with Trewhitt, McNaughton, Ostle, Birtles; Metcalfe and Chapelhow looking exciting prospects.

Carvetii struggled to cope with the pace of competitive football in the opening exchanges and found themselves two goals down early on. However, a spirited fightback saw them eventually run out as deserved 3-2 winners thanks to a brace of own goals and a late winner from Jason Chapelhow.
