KENDAL AC team captain Danny Parkinson won the 1500m race and set a new personal-best of 4min. 11sec. when the new Mid-Lancs League track and field season opened at Wigan on Saturday.

A big turnout of Kendal athletes helped to make the best start for the club in more than 12 years.

Parkinson dominated a very strong field for the senior men's 1500m and team-mate Phillip Lee came ninth in 4-53 and a creditable fifth in the 800m in 2-22.

In the 400m Kendal filled second, fifth and seventh thanks to Mid-Lancs debutant Luc Morgan (57-20), Tom Matthews (57-60) and Matthew Lishman (59-20) respectively.

Pete Acland ran the 3000m and was 13th in a respectable 11-26.

Morgan impressed when trying the javelin, which he won with a throw of 32-73.

In the Under-17 men's events, Kendal took third and sixth in the 100m through Graham Parson (12-30) and Adam Clark (13-00).

The same lads captured fourth and fifth in the 200m as Parson (25-40) finished ahead of Clark (26-40), the latter also capturing third place in the discus (12-25), ahead of Patrick Vicary (4-47) in eighth.

In the Under-15 Boys events, Callum Blakie was third in the 100m (13-00) in the same race as team-mates Tom Hartley (14-50), sixth, and Matthew Smith (14-70) seventh.

In the 200m Kendal were third and fifth with Blakie (27-00) ahead of Smith (28-20).

Luke Ingham had a great day, winning a strong 800m in 2-20, to which he added a third in the 400m (63-30).

In the long jump Blakie (4-60) was second, while at the high jump Robbie Ingham (1-20) was third. Matthew Smith (3-58) and Jake Carradus were ninth and 12th in the long jump.

In the 1500m Kendal were rewarded when Mikey Hoyle was fifth (4-59) and team-mates Sam Skill and Jake Carradus had a good race between themselves, Skill taking 12th (5-43) ahead of Carradus (5-46) in 13th.

Chloe Hine enjoyed a brilliant day, considering she is at the bottom end of her age group in the U17 Women's events. In a high-class 100m, Hine (13-60) was fourth and she also took fourth in the long jump (4-04).

In the U15 Girls events, Rebecca Garnett was fourth in the 100m (14-80) and team-mate Nina Smart sixth (15-00).

Eilidh Sproul was fifth in a strong 200m (31-00), in which Kathryn McCann also took sixth (34-50).

Sproul was an excellent third in the 800m (2-39) and Joelle Campbell set a new pb by 13 seconds when eighth in the 1500m (5-37). Helena Casement (6-20) was 11th in the same race. Both Casement and Campbell took part in the long jump, finishing seventh (3-86) and tenth (3-72) respectively. Kathryn McCann was 14th (3-04).

Campbell also took a fifth in the high jump (1-30).

In the shot put, McCann was fourth (6-51) and team-mates Nina Smart eighth (6-33), and Francesca Ward 16th (4-78).

Rebecca Garnett was a well-earned third in the discus (15-38), Casement seventh (11-89) and Ward ninth (10-72).

Garnett also shone in the javelin with a throw of 14-81.

In the U13 girls 100m, Jessica Hodsman finished fifth (14-80), Jade Screen (15-70) sixth. Hodsman was third in the 200m (30-50), Sally Scott took fourth (31-00) and Chloe Halhead sixth.

Scott and Halhead both did the 800m and the long jump. Halhead was fourth in the 800m (3-02) and Scott eighth (3-03). Scott was third in the long jump (3-91 and Halhead 25th (2-88).

In the shot-put Kendal were also well to the fore with Hodsman second with a throw of 6-76. Jade Screen was sixth (5-87) at the same event but won the discus with a superb throw of 14-21.

After the first meeting of the series, five of Kendal's male teams are lying second in their categories, with the women sitting atop their league.
