KENDAL Ski Club has achieved Snowsport England's prestigious 'Snow Mark' accreditation.

The 'Snow Mark' prog-ramme is a nationally approved method of examining, maintaining and improving the provision of snowsports in clubs.

The Kendal club, established in 1984, has developed dramatically since its inception. It bought land and secure lottery funding for a new slope which was opened in 1997. Volunteers, who all give a huge amount of time, run the club.

Thousands of skiers and boarders have taken their first slide down a hill on Kendal's slope. Many who were taught in the early days now bring their families, children and grandchildren!

The Kendal club committee was pleased to be asked to help piloting the 'Snow Mark' scheme.

It has involved a lot of work in collecting information and documentation, the club says, but it has served as a valuable exercise in focussing on areas of importance to both existing and potential future users.

Building upon current good practice, the accreditation recognises the effort and achievement of clubs that reach, maintain and improve on the set standard of a club committed to quality snowsports experiences for young skiers and boarders.
