FAST-IMPROVING Border City junior Tom Walker enhanced his already considerable reputation by powering to victory in Sunday's Lune RCC road race on on the Capernwray circuit.
Walker, aged 17, is a member of the national junior development squad and, after bridging a gap to Jimmy Wright, of Preston Wheelers, the pair stayed clear together until Walker rode away from his opponent after the last climb of the 53-mile event. Burton Calum Nicholson (ProBikeKit) was 12th.
Kent Valley Road Club's opening Milnthorpe 10 of the season was won by 2007 club 10s champion John Ingham in 23-27 from David Baxter on 24-12. Other leading returns were: Jonathon Knox 25-17; Tony Dixon 26-14, Nigel Hooker 26-47; Richard Belk 27-13; Garry Dixon 27-47; Andrew Bunn 28-23; and Chris Stilling 28-43.
Saturday's Lancashire Road Club open 10 miles time trial was won by James Stewart (KFS Special Vehicles/Sunday Bikes) in a very rapid early season time of 19-57. Kent Valley's Jonathon Knox was the juvenile winner in 22-47 and his clubmate Beau Smith was fourth fastest junior in 23-03.
Other leading local times were: Andrew Barlow (KV) 23-15; third woman Lynn Hamel (TheGreenRoomGroup) 24-28; Ian Lilley (KV) 25-01; Neil Stirling (KV vet) 26-53; and Ann Nicholson (KV vet) 27-51.
Monday's Jungle Café 12-mile hilly time trial promoted by the Kent Valley results: 1 Andrew Barlow 32-13; 2 Jonathon Knox 33-06; 3 Nigel Hooker 35-11; 4 Tim Bennett 36-08; Steve Vaughan 37-38; and Andrew Bunn 38-30.
