NETHERFIELD Cricket Club's new professional and a couple of well-known former holders of the office did the club proud as the opening matches in ICC World Cup took place.
South African swing bowler Charl Langeveldt chipped in with a wicket 221-run victory over the Netherlands.
Langeveldt is due at Parkside Road for the Northern League campaign immediately after his country's part is played in cricket's showpiece knockout.
But it was Netherfield's former professionals Jacques Kallis and Herschel Gibbs who took the plaudits.
Gibbs, who replaced a young Kallis during his season at Netherfield, took the headlines when he clouted six successive sixes - a first for the World Cup.
Gibbs made 72 and Kallis went on to hit a top-scoring unbeaten 128 out of South Africa's 353-3 off a reduced 40 overs.
The Netherlands wilted like parched tulips to 132-9 in reply, leaving South Africa (or should that be Netherfield old boys) with a great confidence-boost for the competition.
