MANAGER Andy Major was delighted at the discipline shown by his players in a hot-tempered game which could have boiled over at any point.

Yet while Kendal Town Reserves kept their cool Northbank Carlisle Reserves lost theirs in a big way, picking up six yellow cards and one red.

Town started brightly on a difficult surface and went ahead on three minutes when a cross from the right by Matthew Wooff was met at the far post by Stephen Hodgson, who headed home.

The return of Jamie Wilson and Lee McNeil into the side added stability to Kendal's defence and forward line, allowing Adam Towler to take control of the midfield where he is an asset.

During the remainder of the first half Town had the better of the exchanges and nearly went two up after 32 minutes when a shot from Stephen Ellwood hit the post and rebounded out for a goal kick.

Northbank pressed on but failed to open up Kendal's defence thanks to good play from Hodgson, Town pressed forward on 35 minutes and were rewarded with their second goal when Stephen Cross found McNeil on the edge of the penalty area. He beat his marker and shot left footed past the Northbank keeper.

Northbank's frustrations were beginning to show and they gre infuriated at the referee's decision making.

The second half was started with Toby Hodkinson replacing Matthew Wooff, who suffered an ankle injury, Northbank's frustrations continued and on 48 minutes they had their fourth caution of the game for dissent then on the hour they were reduced to 10 men after their No. 9 was dismissed for insults to the referee.

On 70 minutes Ellwood was up-ended in the penalty area and McNeil scored Kendal's third from the spot with an unstoppable left footed shot.

Northbank should have scored on 74 minutes but for a excellent save from Danny Roberts, who tipped a goalbound effort over the bar while diving high to his right. Town added their fourth on 80 minutes when Ellwood latched on to a ball from Hodkinson and tucked his shot under the diving goalkeeper.

Greystoke.....................1 Burneside....................3 BURNESIDE maintained third place in the First Division with a well-contested win at Greystoke. In a game of many chances, Burneside were able to convert theirs while a combination of good saves by Tom Bush in Burneside's goal and poor finishing thwarted Greystoke.

Burneside's first goal came midway through the first half following good work by Leigh Ellwood in midfield. He won possession and, following a thrusting run, split the Greystoke defence with an inch-perfect pass for Martin Willan to run on from the left and drill the ball low and hard into the back of the net.

Burneside then pressed for a second and Tom Selby's low cross into the box caused confusion in the Greystoke defence where goal-poacher Mike Wilson swivelled inside the six yard box and poked the ball home.

In the second half Burneside continually prised open the Greystoke defence and during one goalmouth melee they had five shots but failed to find the net.

Greystoke put three strikers up front but Steve Jamieson stepping up from the reserves, had an outstanding game ,sweeping up everything.

Burneside finished the game off midway through the second half when Jimmy Ellwood was pulled down in the penalty box, and Leigh Ellwood stepped up to drive home a well-placed penalty to the keeper's right.

Greystoke got a consolation goal with five minutes to go when substitute Jonny Kennedy stabbed home a falling ball inside the six yard box.
