BOTH teams struggled to apply consistent pressure because of the stiff breeze and a firm but bumpy playing surface.

Wetheriggs, who have won the league title for the past six seasons, were always going to be a tough nut to crack. but the first real opportunity fell to Keswick when Andy Frampton's low diagonal ball from the right ran on to Paul Frampton, but the ball would not sit down for an early strike, allowing the keeper time to get out and make a block.

The next ten minutes saw Keswick pressing and they thought they had won a penalty when Collins turned his marker in the six-yard box only to have his shirt pulled. Appeals rang out, but the referee remained silent.

Shortly after Keswick were awarded a penalty when a defender blocked a cross with his hands, a harsh decision as the distance between kicker and player was only a few yards. Hilton's spot kick was comfortably saved as the keeper guessed the right way At the other end Wetheriggs had a goal disallowed for a push on Williams at the back post before he headed the ball into the net.

Keswick thought they should have had another penalty as Kirkby suffered a two-hand push as he went for a free header, but all appeals fell on deaf ears.

Wetheriggs then got the goal, which was to prove to be the winner. A deep corner to the back post was poorly defended allowing an onrushing Wetheriggs player to force the ball in.

The second half was tight with both teams cancelling each other out.

Wetheriggs repeatedly played the ball into the corners forcing Keswick deep into their own half.
