A £30million plan has been unveiled which could transform Poulton town centre.

The regeneration plans would centre around a new Booths store and civic centre at Tithebarn Street.

Council bosses predict that if plans come to fruition, the growth from improved trading over the next five years could be as much as £130 million.

The supermarket chain hopes to create a store with office suites and parking for 240 cars.

A multi-storey car parking facility, providing an additional 370 spaces on the existing Booth's car park on Ball Street, could complement the scheme with a new road constructed at the back of the car park to the Railway Station at Breck Road.

The new development would also fund public space improvements to the pedestrianised area on Church Street.

Graham Booth, property director of Booths, said: “We have been trading successfully in the town for 35 years and the present site is becoming inadequate to provide the facilities our customers expect.

"We are looking forward to working with both Wyre Borough Council and the local community to develop further major plans to regenerate Poulton."

Central to the scheme would be the relocation of Wyre Borough Council's current headquarters.

Staff would move from the civic centre on Breck Road to modern purpose built offices above the new Booths.

Wyre's new offices would be funded through the sale of its current site including the Poulton Community Centre which is currently home to the Fylde Coast YMCA's headquarters.

Councillor Russell Forsyth, leader of Wyre Borough Council, said: “This prospective development provides the council with a unique opportunity to move to more modern and energy efficient offices and provide an improved service to the general public for less money, something which we could not afford to do on our own.

"This can only be achieved through partnership working with Booths who have shown they have total confidence in Poulton.”

Earlier this year, separate plans were revealed which would see both the town's GP surgeries relocated to a modern building on the site of St Chad's church hall and St Chad’s Tennis Club near to Vicarage Park.

To improve traffic flows, a controversial reversal of the town’s one-way road system has been proposed.

Artists impressions of the regeneration will be on display at a number of exhibitions in the New Year.

Following this, a planning application could be submitted as early as next year.

If the project then receives planning permission, the construction period could take around 18-24 months.
