Local residents have are happier and safer living in Wyre, according to the results of a new report.

The Life in Wyre survey, which asked 1,100 local residents for their views on living in the borough and the council's services, has shown that 89 per cent of those questioned say they are satisfied with Wyre as a place to live.

In Poulton the satisfaction rate is even higher at 96 per cent.

In addition, the survey results of residents reveal that 92.6 per cent said they felt safe in Wyre during the day and 63 per cent said they felt safe at night.

This compares with 89.6 per cent and 55.2 per cent when the last survey was undertaken in 2005.

The survey also showed 68.2 per cent of residents questioned said they were satisfied with the overall service provided by the council.

This figure shows a four per cent increase from satisfaction levels in 2005.

The results will be presented to the council's Cabinet meeting tonight by the council's Portfolio Holder for Living Communities Councillor Peter Gibson.

The survey was undertaken by an independent research company on behalf of the council.

Councillor Gibson said: "At a time when public satisfaction with many local councils is dropping this report clearly shows that Wyre Borough Council is bucking the trend.

"Some of the figures here clearly show the work that the council and its partners is doing is definitely helping to improve life in the borough for many residents.

"For example the council's decision to contribute to the funding of Police Community Support Officers in the borough is certainly appearing to deliver results in terms of how safe people feel and also their perception of crime.

Councillor Gibson added: "However although this survey, along with our recent audit commission rating as a good council, shows we are heading in the right direction we are certainly not resting on our laurels and are determined to press forward and improve on the work we have done so far."
