A Lytham actor is ‘in the pink’ after landing a lead role in a new animated version of a children’s classic.

David Holt, 45, will provide the voice of Pinky in the The Pinky and Perky Show, which begins its run on CBBC next month.

The brand new version of the children’s classic will see the popular piglets hamming it up for a whole new generation of fans.

The original Pinky and Perky TV show was hugely popular across the world from 1959 to 1973 and the duo had hit singles with Frank Sinatra, The Beatles and Tom Jones, as well as making frequent stage appearances, including a sell-out year in Las Vegas.

David who was born in Blackpool and lived in Lytham until his early 20s, attended Kirkham Grammar School.

He said he had enjoyed the role and was looking forward to seeing the finished production on screen.

He said: “It’s been really enjoyable 18 months working on the show and I feel a real chemistry has grown between myself and Duncan Wisbey who plays Perky.

“For this version the characters have been developed, with Pinky slightly more reserved and creative while Perky is brash, spontaneous and loud.”

David, whose TV credits include Pulling, The Thieving Headmistress and The Day Britain Stopped, as well as voicing Rupert the Bear, said the voices used for the porky duo would not be the speeded-up ultra-squeaky style of the original and would be more like his normal speaking voice.

He also revealed that a few songs would be included in the show.

He added: “I remember the original series well as do most of my generation and I hope the new show will give the characters a whole new generation of fans.”

The Pinky and Perky Show will begin at 5.45pm on Tuesday, November 3, and will air every weekday.
