New fencing for Kirkham pub

The Chimes pub in Kirkham is ringing in the changes as a new fence, provided by Fylde Borough Council, is now in place.

The fence, pictured, which acts as a barrier between the Chimes estate and the very busy A583, has been replaced by the council following concerns that the old fence was past its best.

Instead of paying to constantly maintain and repair the old fence the decision was made to pay the £40,000 necessary to completely replace the full 228 metre stretch of fencing.

Recognising the safety requirements of the area it was felt that a sturdy, high specification fence was required to prevent people straying onto the busy stretch of road.

The fence is the same specification as those that line motorway embankments and has a life expectancy of at least 30 years.

Councillor Simon Renwick, Cabinet Member for Culture and Tourism, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to solve the problem here and I believe the investment in health and safety for residents is of paramount importance.”

There is one more section of fencing to complete.

It is proposed to undertake a final phase of fencing replacement on the Southlands estate during 2009.
