A VICTORIOUS Lancashire football team have been honoured at County Hall.

Members of the Kirkham and Wesham FC were invited to an evening reception in their honour by County Councillor Alan Whittaker, Chair of Lancashire County Council.

The team recently won the FA Vase final at the world-famous Wembley stadium.

Councillor Whittaker said: “As Chair of the county council, I believe it is important to recognise the achievements of Lancastrians in any field.

“Kirkham and Wesham’s success meant that Lancashire was given a national spotlight, which also promoted the area in a very positive light.

“To succeed in competitions like the FA Vase you need to work together and try hard. These are all excellent qualities.

“I would like to congratulate the team on behalf of Lancashire County Council and wish them well for the new football season.”

Members of the club, accompanied by partners and other family members, were joined for the evening by PNE and England legend, Sir Tom Finney.

The team also presented their first ‘club person of the year’ trophy to Mr Stanley Rutter, who has supported the club for many years.

This award was made possible thanks to a financial contribution from Councillor Whittaker, in his role as Chair of the county council, towards the cost of the trophy.
