LANCASTER film lovers will be able to enjoy the latest releases again in just over a week's time.

The former ABC cinema, which closed in September, is to open its doors again on Friday, January 17, after being bought by Northern Morris Associated Cinemas, based in Grange-over-Sands.

It is being re-named The Regal and will show blockbusters such as Eminem's 8-mile', Gangs of New York' and Chicago'.

Managing director Charles Morris says: "It is absurd that a city of the size and status of Lancaster should be without a commercial cinema.

"As soon as we discovered the premises were closing we made enquiries, but we could not re-open any sooner due to legal requirements.

"I have always wanted a cinema in a university town and I am looking forward very much to it."
