KENDAL Town received a commendation from referee David Lawrence for their efforts before and after their fixture at Eastwood Town.
Mr Lawrence, in car less than six months old and carrying both his assistants, broke down on the M1 and was told by the AA it would be approximately an hour before help arrived.
Although Mr Lawrence had been instructed by the police to stay with his car, the trio managed to flag down the Kendal Town team bus so that the two assistants could get to Eastwood.
In the meantime the home side arranged for a local match official to stand in for the missing ref. After the game Kendal returned the two assistants to Tankersley to link up with Mr Lawrence.
