CUMBERLAND Cricket Club scorer Colin Bland retired at the end of last season after 10 years' service and the county is on the lookout for a replacement.

The job is open to a male or female and involves scoring for Cumberland's three-day Minor Counties Championship Easter Division fixtures and one-day cup matches.

It is about eight matches from early June to the end of August, but cup success could mean extra matches.

Experience as a scorer and cricketing knowledge is expected, says Cumberland press officer John Richardson.

"It might suit somebody who is retired," he said. "It involves travelling to places like Norwich and Edinburgh during the season, but there is hotel accommodation and mileage and subsistence paid." Anyone interested should contact Mr Richardson on 01772 749130 before Cumberland's next meeting at Penrith on January 24.

Cumberland are set to play Scotland in the first round of the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy for 2004 at Edinburgh on Sunday, August 31.

The county visit Netherfield's Parkside Road ground earlier that month on August 17-19 when they host Staffordshire.

Other fixtures are: MCCA Trophy, second round, June 8 Winners of Devon v Shropshire (a).

MCCA Championship, Easter Division, June 1-3 Bedfordshire (away, Dunstable); June 22-24 Lincolnshire (home, Barrow CC); July 13-15 Cambridgeshire (away, March); August 3-5 Northumberland (away, Jesmond); August 17-19 Staffordshire (home, Netherfield CC); August 24-26 Hertfordshire (home, Carlisle CC).
