FURNESS MP John Hutton is calling on people in the area to snub the activities of the British National Party.

Mr Hutton has been approached by constituents concerned that the BNP has recently been leafleting in the Furness area to gather support. He said that they appear to be targeting young people but has urged everyone to shun the party.

"People must be aware what the BNP stand for. They are a neo-nazi organisation whose members promote race hatred. There is no room for racists and I know that people of this area neither need nor want the kind of vile propaganda used by such organisations to be put through their doors.

"I am calling upon all the other parties who are likely to be involved in the local elections in May to refuse to have anything whatsoever to do with the type of policies the BNP promote," he said.

Mr Hutton also asked political parties not to use any race in any of their election material.

"I would also hope all responsible politicians would refuse to give any credence to the BNP by sharing a platform with them should they put candidates up in the local elections."
