RHEGED visitor centre near Penrith has raised £2,000 for vital restoration work on a riverside footpath as part of its work for the Tourism and Conservation Partnership.

The money will be used to upgrade a Pooley Bridge footpath that follows the River Eamont.

The Lake District National Park Authority will carry out the restoration work to replace worn wooden platforms along the riverbank and to upgrade the surface to allow access for the less able.

Kirstie Royce of the Tourism and Conservation Partnership, which aims to raise funds from tourism to maintain and enhance the Lake District, said: "Rheged have helped to highlight to the tourism industry that everyone can play a part in supporting their local environment."
