-Freshen beds and borders planted with spring flowers by forking them over lightly. This will help surplus water to drain away and may help to deter slugs. It looks nicer too.

-Start forcing rhubarb. Put a large, light-proof container over the plant, then wrap this in straw or other insulating material to raise the temperature beneath the pot.

-Check hedges and shrub beds for invading brambles. Dig them out at the roots and make sure there are no suckers left behind.
