BARITONE Mark Rowlinson, accompanied by celebrated pianist Martin Roscoe, recreates the atmosphere and style of the Schubertiads, next Thursday (7.30pm) at Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre.

The music duo return to those early 19th Century evenings in Vienna when composer Franz Schubert joined his friends to perform his lieder' - musical versions of favourite German and Austrian poetic works.

In a singing career spanning three decades, Mark Rowlinson has been a member of the choirs of Brompton Oratory and Westminster Abbey. He has been a soloist with the CBSO, Hall and New Philharmonia and sang the baritone solos in the War Requiem performed at Benjamin Britten's memorial concert.

He has been a soloist with the Huddersfield Choral Society, Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, Northern Sinfonia and Yorkshire Baroque Soloists and has sung Christus in the St Matthew Passion performed with the Choir of King's College, Cambridge for five consecutive years.

The following night (Friday, 8pm) former cabinet minister, chief executive of TV-am, correspondent, and banker Jonathan Aitken tells of his roller-coaster ride through life.
