SIR, Yet another disproportionate

example of diminishing services for higher taxes. An idea for consideration

Public conveniences are generally

situated very close to car parks, all of which have parking meters, all of which are inspected several times a day and all of which have their meters emptied regularly.

Reintroduce coin-operated loos 5p or even 10p is small price to pay when your bladder is bursting and the only alternative is to nip over the wall' (for those young and agile, or desperate, enough).

Toilet and car park meters could be emptied at the same time and the resulting revenue would, I am certain, go most of the way to the up-keep and cleaning of our essential conveniences.

If SLDC is feeling particularly benevolent, an alternative would be to bequeath' conveniences to the respective town or parish councils, who could themselves install coin meters, collect the revenue and thus pay for up-keep and cleaning. There might even be enough left over for a small vase of fresh flowers!
