KENDAL AAC athlete Peter Rhodes, who attends the Lakes School, won the

Under-15 boys North of England Indoor Combined Events title on Saturday.

Along with three other Kendal clubmates, Rhodes took part in the NoEAA Championships at the purpose-built indoor track at Sportscity, Manchester.

This stadium was built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games and is now used for competitions and training.

Rhodes started his competition with solid performances in the 60m hurdles (10.06) and shot put (8m38). It was his high jump of 1.61m which took him into first place, a position he consolidated with a personal-best long jump of 5.52 metres.

A good 800 metres time of 2min 38sec saw Peter clinch the gold medal with an overall points score of 2103.

Also competing in the U15 boys pentathlon was James Wright, who finished a highly credible eighth in the championships.

Wright achieved personal bests in his hurdles, high jump and 800 metres to run up an overall score of 1451 points.

Twin sisters, Claire and Katie Huck competed in the Under-17 women's pentathlon, an event that attracted the biggest entry in the competition.

Claire scored particularly well in hurdles (9.98s) and high jump (1.61m), while Katie excelled in long jump and the 800m.

Both girls recorded personal-best throws in shot with the end result being that Claire gained fifth with 2693 points and Katie sixth with 2660 points.

All four athletes are looking forward to competing in the individual event NoEAA Championships, which are taking place this weekend at Manchester.
