KENDAL town councillors are looking to fill the seat formerly held by bus driver and father-of-four Pete Wilson, who died from a brain haemorrhage last December.

Coun Wilson, 56, was voted on to Kendal Town Council last May, and he wished to help the village of Oxenholme, where he, his wife Julie and their family had made their home. Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Collins and Mayor of Kendal Avril Dobson were among mourners at Coun Wilson's funeral at Crosthwaite.

At their meeting this week, councillors agreed that town clerk Hugh McClorry could post a notice outside Kendal Town Hall advising people of the vacant seat. An election will be held if at least ten electors request it within 14 days of the notice being posted. If that does not happen, councillors may co-opt a new member.
