KENDAL NFU is urging farmers to check draft access maps to see how their land might be affected by the "right to roam" proposals.
Under new legislation the public is to be given increased access to the open countryside. For some farmers, however, the proposed routes may prove troublesome, particularly in environmentally sensitive areas or at lambing time. Appeals to have routes varied must be returned to the Countryside Agency by March 10. Kendal Group secretary Chris Davies said: "We are concerned that a lot of members have yet to check the maps for themselves. And it is important that they do so to ensure comment forms are returned in good time."
Maps are available for inspection at Kendal NFU on Appleby Road. For an appointment to view them call 01539-722422.
