CONSERVATION-KEEN children had a close encounter of the feathered kind when a birds of prey demonstration came to school.
Pupils at Old Hutton Primary School were visited by feathered residents of Corio Raptor Care, High Bentham, and Nick Henderson - who gave a talk on the centre's endangered birds.
Timone the barn owl, Pikachu the tawny owl, Simba the one-eyed kestrel, Boo the European eagle owl and George the vulture all provided some extra curricular study for the awe-struck children.
Head teacher Graham Frost said: "As a school we are very interested in wildlife, we have a wildlife area and have been working with English Nature since Christmas to develop it. We are looking to create the right habitats for a range of mini-beasts and mice and eventually the children will keep a diary of animal sightings which will be used for maths work."
