SOUTH Lakeland residents hit the streets of London this week in protest against images of an artist eating a dead baby, reports Beth Broomby.

The demonstration at Channel 4's Horseferry Road premises on Sunday included around 50 protesters from London and Kendal and was spearheaded by Kendal artist and photographer Martin Wyness.

Broadcasters at BBC Radio London also chose to feature the event on their breakfast show hosted by Vanessa Feltz and Simon Lederman.

Mr Wyness said a number of church leaders in London had lent support to the protest dubbed the Movement Against Sick Television. These included a Catholic priest who led 11 of his congregation down to the protest after mass.

As previously reported, the 44-year-old father of two called on local residents to join him in the "peaceful protest" after seeing a number of "disturbing" pictures on a television documentary.

Beijing Swings was broadcast on Channel 4's Think TV just after 11pm on January 2.
