LAKES parish councillors are writing to British Telecom bosses in a plea to save nearly half of the ten Ambleside phoneboxes earmarked for closure.
The letter will ask BT to reconsider its plans for four of the village kiosks on Greenbank Road, Kirkfield Estate, Wansfell Terrace and Waterhead.
Council clerk Michael Presland said members of the public had voiced concerns over the closure of the Kirkfield Estate phonebox, which was essential in emergencies for drivers on the Kirkstone Pass.
Councillors added one of the two telephone boxes earmarked for closure at Waterhead must be retained as the area was an interchange for people using buses, boats and taxis.
