THE chief executive of the Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust has been presented with an honorary fellowship by St Martin's College.
The award to Ian Cumming given at a ceremony at Carlisle Cathedral comes in recognition of his contri-bution to health care in North Lancashire and South Cumbria over more than 20 years.
Mr Cumming (pictured) was a governor at St Martin's College from 1997 to 2001 and prior to that held a series of executive roles at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
He became the youngest trust chief executive in the NHS when, in 1995, he was appointed head of the Lancaster Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
The honour follows an OBE in 2003 for his leadership of the NHS response to the largest ever outbreak of Legionnaire's Disease in Barrow-in-Furness in 2002.
