SCHOOLS are being targeted by a new poster campaign aiming to reduce the number of teenagers killed on the roads in Lancashire.

It follows the release of shock figures showing that 55 teenagers a week are injured on UK roads.

New posters for the THINK! road safety campaign show a boy listening to his MP3 player as he crosses a road - and is hit by a car.

Road safety advisor Clare Farrer says: "This new campaign reminds young people to be aware of the dangers of not concentrating.

"Pedestrian casualties peak at about age 12, so it is vital that parents continue talking to their children about road safety and staying safe.

"It's easy to get distracted when crossing the road by talking, having fun, chatting on a mobile phone or listening to music. We want to remind teenagers to give roads their full attention."

The road safety group is this week distributing campaign posters to all secondary schools in Lancashire.
