I WRITE about the proposed develop-ment of the canal corridor site in Lancaster.

I find it terribly depressing that the city council seems to be throwing away the chance for an excellent project on its own land. It could create a canalside park, an area for small businesses and perhaps low cost housing.

Instead we have Centros Miller as a preferred developer' (nobody else was asked if they wanted to be that developer), with plans for a large department store and car parking. In other words it looks to me like we will have the same dreary shopping centre development as usual.

Centros Miller has already shown its true colours in Bury St Edmunds where there is a campaign against its plans for wrecking that town. We need the same campaign here.
