REMEMBRANCE Sun-day this year falls on November 13 and I hope everyone in the Lancaster district will take time to remember not only all who died for their country in two World Wars but also others injured or trau-matised by more recent operations in Afghan-istan, Bosnia and Iraq.

British service men and women are playing a vital role in the war against terrorism both at home and abroad and I urge people to make a special effort to recognise the work of the Royal British Legion each year for those left behind and for the ex-service men and women who need continuing care.

Remembrance Day ceremonies and the two minutes' silence provide a special focus for communities to remember the sacrifices made on our behalf. Please give generously to the Royal British Legion Poppy Day appeal and wear your poppy with pride.

Cllr Joyce Taylor, Mayor of Lancaster.
