THE mighty miracle workers of Morecambe fought back from the dead of 3-0 down with 32 minutes left to earn an amazing 3-3 draw at Canvey Island.

The Shrimps looked buried as their away day curse appeared to be striking again in the land of jellied eels and pie and mash.

But a Jim Bentley goal and a brace from the best player in the Conference, Michael Twiss, made sure Jim Harvey and company could travel home with something.

It could have been so different had Twiss not seen a penalty saved before the Pearly Kings and Queens had taken their seats in the Park Lane stands.

Twiss had been brought down in the area and stepped up to try and give his side the advantage but Danny Potter saved well and then Morecambe were rocked when Alan Tait put Canvey in front on nine minutes.

He appeared to miscue his shot but it still looped in with Ryan Robinson wrong-footed.

Morecambe were shocked at 1-0 down and started to pass the ball with poise and style but Potter was equal to anything they threw at him.

And then Island went 2-0 up as Lee Boylan finished off neatly from Jeff Minton's smart cross.

Even at that stage Morecambe looked the better side but Potter saved well from Kieran Walmsley and Twiss.

But despite being on top More-cambe fell 3-0 behind after the break when Ben Sedgemore kept his nerve to beat Robinson.

That seemed to be game over for Morecambe and even when Bentley powered home from a Walmsley free-kick it seemed too little too late.

However, when Twiss is on form he is quite simply spectacular. The best player in the Conference? Well, you wouldn't bet against it And with 16 minutes to go he made it 3-2 as he converted stylishly (pictured above) after Wayne Curtis flicked on a Walmsley free-kick.

And then Twiss crashed home the leveller from 16 yards after a good ball from Michael Howard.

But the headlines were nearly stolen by Canvey as Boylan almost won it in stoppage time with a 20-yard shot.

But Robinson was equal to it and deflected the ball to safety so that the game finished 3-3 - and Canvey celebrated like they had won.
