Sir, Without wishing to make any judgement on the Lake District National Park Authority's recent proposal to do away with guided walks, we would like to point out that there are many other reputable organisations who run guided walks on the Lake District fells.
Most are commercial enterprises, so the walks are not free, but to say that the decision will "deprive 4,500 people of the opportunity to enjoy the country in safety" is, we would suggest, not necessarily true.
Information on such organisations can be found from walking magazines, tourist information centres or the Internet.
