Sir, Readers of The Westmorland Gazette may have noted in the news that the single-carriageway speed limit in the Republic of Ireland has just been reduced to 50mph.
If, like myself, you believe that the introduction of such a measure would significantly increase public safety and our quality of life then please start badgering Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Collins, the appropriate government minister or, indeed, Tony Blair himself.
The National Park Authority received a lot of flak a few years ago when it suggested such a limit for the area. It seems that the idea is coming round again.
Who knows, it might make driving less stressful, help to keep the born-again bikers and boy\girl\adult racers in check, save a few lives and make our weekends a bit more peaceful.
