A WINDERMERE primary school could soon be welcoming three-year-olds through its gate for the first time.

Governors at St Cuthbert's RC Primary have launched a consultation process to consider opening a nursery at the school.

If the proposals get the go-ahead, the nursery could be up and running at the Princes Road school by September and would have space for ten children during each half-day session.

It would be funded through a delegated budget, in the same way as the rest of the school. Head teacher Hannah Burke stressed that St Cuthbert's was just "at the beginning of the consultation" process.

"Our governors believe that provision of a nursery would be very beneficial to the children in our school community. At the moment we have the capacity to do it in terms of size of the school buildings," she said.
