A TEAM of volunteers is visiting Royal Lancaster Infirmary to look at standards of hygiene and cleanliness in a bid to understand the superbug' MRSA.
The RLI is one of 35 hospitals being visited by 150 volunteers this week for a survey by the Patient and Public Involvement Forums.
They will look at how often staff wash their hands, and the numbers and availability of sinks on the wards.
It is hoped the survey will tackle the rise in hospital acquired infections.
And if the project is successful it could soon be rolled out by PPI Forums across the UK.
The results will be analysed by the Regional Office of the Commission for Patient & Public Involvement in Health before recommendations are made available to the public.
Regional manager Paul Siddall says: "MRSA is high profile issue that concerns us all and the bug watch' survey is a real opportunity for PPI forums to make a difference in the region."
