FOUR special meetings are planned next week to spell out the effects of new licensing laws in the Lancaster district.

Local people are being urged to go along and have their say on new booze rules that will come into force next year.

Licensed premises such as pubs, clubs, restaurants and even cinemas and theatres will have to apply for new style licences.

And at the same time, people wishing to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol will be able to apply for a new-style personal licence' under the rules.

Police, fire service and licensees' organisations are now being asked for their thoughts.

And the council says it is keen to hear comments from anyone interested in regard to crime and disorder, the prevention of public nuisance, public safety and the protection of children.

Copies of the draft policy are available from the council's website at www.lancaster.gov.uk and comments and can be submitted until November, 26.

The open meetings spelling out details of the policy are planned at Morecambe Town Hall next Monday (September 13) at 10am and 6pm at Morecambe Town Hall and Thursday (September 16) at 10am and 6pm in Lancaster Town Hall.
