LANCASTER City's unbeaten run came to a shuddering end on Saturday and boss Phil Wilson was anything but happy with the below-par showing at the Giant Axe.

Dolly Blues boss Wilson, pictured, was feeling truly blue after his young and under strength side saw their three-match run ended by powerful Hinckley United.

Wilson was seething despite City almost grabbing a point from a game they were rarely in.

He blasted: "That was our worst display of the season. We were poor and they really should have had us dead and buried by half-time."

Hinckley, boasting a host of seasoned old professionals, bossed the game from the start and City, without some of their most experienced players, never coped. Deespite a late scoring flurry, they went down 3-2.

"I have three or four experienced men missing and quite a few of the lads out there were under-22 but we have to do better than that performance" says Wilson.

"We knew beforehand that it was going to be a tough game against a very good side but we just didn't compete.

"We have to start to win the ball and keep it when we get it."

City went 3-0 down before two goals in the last two minutes gave the score a more respectable look.

In fact, Lancaster could have snatched an unlikely draw with their late surge as Hinckley finished the game with 10-men.

"We were not strong enough and the two late goals flattered us," admits Wilson.

He hopes to have skipper Gary Bauress back from injury for Saturday's mammoth trek to Worcester City but still has doubts over the fitness of Jamie Murphy.
