THE 35th annual Kendal Torchlight ...

Carnival rolls into town on Friday. This year's theme is Beat of the Feet Culture of Carnival. As well as the procession of floats, marching bands and dancers there will be many street entertainers and the Gooseholme fairground. The entertainment begins at 7pm.

WELL-known Lancashire Steeplejack Fred Dibnah will be appearing at Forum 28, Duke Street, Barrow, on Friday. An evening with Fred Dibnah will feature stories from his many years as a steeplejack and his experiences as a television programme maker. The evening will begin at 7.30pm.

SATTERTHWAITE...

GRIZEDALE Arts present an evening of open-mike stand-up comedy compered by funny man Bedwyr Williams at the Eagles Head, Satterthwaite, on Friday. There will be the opportunity to perform your routine to a global audience as the evening's entertainment is webcast around the world. There will also be a live link-up to a bar in New York. There will also be a cash prize for best act of the night. The evening takes place from 7pm-10pm.

STAVELEY...

STAVELEY Amateur Operatic Society will be performing its 50th anniversary- production of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado which was the society's first production 50 years ago. The Mikado runs until Saturday, September 18, with performances at 7.30pm. For tickets call 01539-722277.

THE famous Cartmel Valley Duck Race takes place at Ayside Pool, Cartmel, on Saturday. As well as the chance to win a few bob there will be fun for all the family. Th e events start at 5pm at the pool, near Longlands Farm, off the Cartmel Newby Bridge Road.

AS PART of the Heritage Open Days event various attractions in Millom, including the Folk Museum and RAF Millom Museum, will be opening their doors to visitors free of charge.
