Recycling efforts in Eden are to get a boost with the introduction of new foil banks.

Following a partnership between the Edington Centre in Penrith, Eden Community Recycling, the Soroptimists and Eden District Council, aluminium foil will now be collected from most recycling centres in Eden.

Penrith-based Eden Community Recycling has set up foil banks at the council's recycling centres to collect clean aluminium such as washed tops from milk bottles, yoghurt pots, freezer trays, kitchen foil.

It is first time that aluminium foil has been collected at the council's recycling centres, though Eden Community Recycling already has banks at its own sites.

Once back at the depot the foil is sorted and baled by volunteer workers from the Edington Centre, a day centre for adults with special educational needs.

The Penrith and District branch of the Soroptimists is running a poster campaign to raise awareness of the new foil banks scheme.
